Well, if you visit the ICM Registry today, you can pre-reserve the ultimate adult domain name. More than 100,000 domain names ending with the extension .xxx have been pre-reserved already, as adult industry players anxiously await the approval of ICANN. ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is the non-profit organization that oversees domain names and IP addresses on the internet. But it has rejected plans to create a new .xxx top-level domain (TLD) time and time again, despite three years of planning. ICM Registry has had enough. They’ve proven the benefits of an .xxx TLD, gained adult industry support, and worked through all of ICANN’s problems and concerns. So why hasn’t ICANN given them the stamp of approval? Stuart Lawley, chairman and president of ICM Registry, reckons it’s because of political pressure from the U.S. Department of Commerce. He decided to take ICANN to court – and he won. Now, there’s nothing ICANN can do to delay the introduction of an .xxx TLD, promised to be available this year. A domain name ending in .xxx will cost more than a .com. The proposed price is US$60, with $10 of that money going to fund the International Foundation for Online Responsibility (IFFOR), which will help protect children from pornography and facilitate better communication between the adult online industry and the broader internet community. Businesses wishing to purchase a .xxx domain name will also be required to adhere to a code of better business practices, which includes labeling content clearly, protecting customers’ privacy, and opposing spam. It’s expected that .xxx will soon become the domain of choice for porn consumers, as it gives them a level of confidence not associated with a garden-variety .com.
